Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
YDSA members are encouraged to develop their knowledge and expertise by attending seminars, forums, conferences and other events. Members have to gain a minimum of 15 points over a period of 3 years. These can be from events arranged by YDSA or other organisations, as long as they are relevant to the development of the surveyor or designer in his professional life. This ensures their credibility to both the client and the legal system, should this be required. Some members specialise in specific types of vessel or materials. Their website entry lists their services, and you can link across to their own site to find out more.
There is an Events List on the website where members can view the programme. Regular emails are also sent to members with details of forthcoming events.
Additionally YDSA has a system of Continuous Professional Monitoring (CPM) and members who have not upgraded for a number of years are requested to provide a recent survey for assessment to ensure standards are maintained.
There is a library at The Glass Works which members are invited to use. Some out-of-print books are available and can be borrowed. It is planned eventually to have these catalogued and available to view. Members are welcome to visit at any time.
